Media Release: New website, bigonglasgow.com, launches as one-stop shop for business and the community

GLASGOW’S newest interactive website (www.bigonglasgow.com), hailed as an one-stop shop for businesses and the community, officially goes live on Saturday 13th March.

This exciting new website, which covers community, business, tourism and property, is described as a ‘revolutionary portal’ that uses the latest web technology to help businesses and community come together. Featuring articles, forums, features and debates, www.bigonglasgow.com will inform users of what’s on and what’s happening in Glasgow – and provide an all-important platform for people to speak out on the issues they think are important.

Iain MacGillivray, managing director of BIG ON, explains that www.bigonglasgow.com is “for Glaswegians everywhere”.

He said: “It is also a place for Glasgow businesses to connect with the community and each other. Every Glasgow business is listed in our comprehensive business directory and this forms both a great resource for the community and each business to springboard their presence online.”

As well as a range of eBusiness services, including a blog and eCommerce store, www.bigonglasgow.com also provides a range of internet marketing services designed to help businesses connect with, and keep talking to, their customers.

Mr MacGillivray added: “Everyone uses the internet these days to find products and services, so every business has to be there. We also let the community in on what’s going on with a free blog to any member or community group and believe that our forums and groups will be a great place to meet, share information and experiences. In fact, you can be BIG ON anything you like.”

The launch marks the first step in the creation of a BIG ON global community and is an innovative new Scottish enterprise.

Taking place in the city’s vibrant St Enoch Square, the unveiling of BIG ON will see the team out and about on a double-decker bus with a soapbox, giving the great Glasgow public the opportunity to have a bit of fun and take part in competitions, one of which offers the top prize of an all-inclusive five-star luxury holiday for two in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

Tom Rafferty, technology director at BIG ON, said, “We’re out on the street to ask people to tell us why they are BIG ON Glasgow – and what else they are BIG ON! The soapbox should be a lot of fun and people will have two minutes to get up and have their say.

“We’ll be filming the event, too, and posting all of the day’s videos on the portal and YouTube. You can also shoot your own video and enter online at the portal, and either use cards to get your message across or just say your piece. We want folks to speak out about what they love about Glasgow, from their favourite spot, and we also want to know what else they are passionate about. That’s what BIG ON Glasgow is about – celebrating our city and our culture.”
