LOCH Leven’s Larder is inviting customers to join in on the celebrations after being nominated for the Deli of the Year Award.
The family-run restaurant, farm and gift shop, based near Kinross, is hoping it has the ‘deli attitude’ that the judges are looking for when they visit the Larder in June to pick their winning delicatessen.
The awards are run by Dorset food company, Olives Et Al, which also founded Purple Love Week – an annual event, which took place last week (13th and 21st February) and celebrates delis across the UK.
To recognise being nominated for the award, Loch Leven’s Larder is inviting new and existing customers to the shop to experience, first-hand why it deserves to be crowned Deli of the Year.
Emma Niven, head of business at Loch Leven’s Larder, was thrilled to be recognised for the Deli of the Year award.
She said: “We are very excited to have been nominated for the Award and would like to thank our customers for voting. We bake all of our own speciality bread and stock a large selection of olives and cured meats, as well as selling delicious cheeses from around the UK and Europe. It’s our fine foods, freshness and seasonality that makes our shop very special and we hope the judging panel of the awards recognises our passion and uniqueness.”
Loch Leven’s Larder is one of around 100 delicatessens across Britain to be nominated for Deli of the Year. By June, a shortlist of the best entries will be decided and an overall winner announced shortly after.
As well as being awarded the prestigious title, the successful deli will win a trip to Spain for two to experience, in person, the Spanish olive harvest.
Giles Henschel, of Olives Et Al, said: “We feel that even the smallest post office with a tiny, deli-type counter should be celebrated so this year we came up with the idea of Deli of the Year and decided to launch it during Purple Love Week.
“We are completely bowled over by the response and hope that delis of all shapes and sizes will be celebrating as the Deli of the Year competition builds up. Votes are already coming in and it’s a good feeling to know that people really do love the atmosphere created by great food!”
