MUSIC retailer, HMV, has today monitored sales of current chart albums of the key artists featured at last night’s 2010 BRIT Awards.
By mid-afternoon, HMV found that Robbie and Florence are the early big winners so far, having seen their album sales more than double overnight, while show-stealing Lady Gaga and Alicia Keys are not far behind.
The top ten biggest gainers at HMV (stores and online at hmv.com) so far are:
Posn Artist / Album title % increase in sales (Tues 16 – Wed 17 Feb)
1. Robbie Williams / Reality Killed the Video Star 150%
2. Florence + The Machine / Lungs 140%
3. Lady Gaga / The Fame 90%
4. Alicia Keys / The Element of Freedom 80%
5. Cheryl Cole / 3 Words 77%
6. Kasabian / West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum 75%
7. Jay-Z / Blueprint III 68%
8. JLS / JLS 65%
9. Dizzee Rascal / Tongue N Cheek 60%
10. Lily Allen / It’s Not Me, It’s You 50%
Rudy Osorio, HMV head of Music comments: “Nominated BRITs artists can generally expect a significant lift in sales of their recordings following the BRITs TV broadcast and the ensuing media coverage.
“The biggest gainers based on initial lifts in album sales so far are Robbie, Florence + The Machine and Lady Gaga, who stole the show with her outlandish costume and haul of three awards. ‘The Fame’ is already one of the biggest sellers of the past twelve months, but will now receive a further massive boost both digitally and via CD sales during the course of this week – sales could easily double or treble in the next few days.
“Other big winners so far include Alicia Keys, Cheryl Cole and best group winners Kasabian as well as Dizzie Rascal and JLS. There are still a great many music fans that don’t have their albums, but their respective awards will now persuade them to go out and buy or download a copy. As the Critics Choice recipient, Ellie Goulding reached a huge new audience and now has a great platform to launch her debut album.”
