VISITSCOTLAND’S Business Tourism Unit (BTU) will be unveiling something new at this year’s International Confex (23-25 February) as well as demonstrating Scotland’s remarkable diversity, value for money and quality.
Says a spokesperson: “With Edinburgh and Glasgow recently placed in the top three most price competitive European destinations for professional association conferences by VisitBritain, this is a good opportunity to target over 10,000 potential buyers to put Scotland top of the list for global meetings.
“Business tourism currently brings £723m per annum to the Scottish economy, and the BTU’s participation in events such as the International Confex Exhibition is essential to build on its success and further grow Scotland’s conference and incentive industry.
“Top conferences secured by Scotland in the last year include: NATO Parliamentary Assembly (2009), G20 Summit (2009), Forbes European CEO Conference (2009) as well as the forthcoming global Adventure Travel Trade Association due to take place in October this year.
“Confex, which takes place at Earls Court in London from 23-25 February, attracts buyers, conference organisers, planners and journalists from all over the world.
“This event allows the BTU and its partners to showcase the very best of Scotland to a highly influential international audience.”
In total, ten partners will be exhibiting at the VisitScotland stand, including Archerfield Links, The Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre, The Dome, Edinburgh Conference Centre at Heriot Watt University, Glasgow Science Centre, Historic Scotland, Murrayfield Experience, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau and, finally, the Scottish Exhibition + Conference Centre (SECC) who will be celebrating their 25th anniversary at Confex.
Lindsay Brown, UK marketing manager at the BTU, said: “Scotland is scoring higher than ever as a top destination for the conference and incentive market.
“According to a recent customer satisfaction survey, the number of people who have said they will return to Scotland has risen 20 per cent from last year, showing we are wowing visitors again and again with our sheer quality of offering.
“Our ten partners each represent Scotland’s enviable range of historic buildings and purpose-built conference centres, academic hubs of excellence and other unique, re-invented spaces.
“We hope our stand B150 at Confex will enable visitors to experience a small part of what Scotland has to offer and will put us firmly top of the list for their next event.”
