ONE of Perth’s top hair stylists and one of Scotland’s leading hairdressing entrepreneurs, Charlie Taylor, took on a runway challenge with a difference recently.
Invited to launch hairdressing giant Schwarzkopf’s Essential Looks collection to the UK in the year of their 111th anniversary year, Charlie was quick to accept.
However, this was to be no ordinary show; and the runway, no ordinary catwalk.
Initially, the venue for the event was shrouded in mystery. However, as time grew nearer, Charlie was to learn that she would play ‘hostess’ in the midst of one of the world’s most luxurious stars of aviation and that she was, indeed, set to launch the collection from beneath the chassis of the supersonic jet Concorde.
Charlie, who is no stranger to the jet set, has performed at venues across the globe including Russia, South Africa and Greece.
Even she concludes, however, that performing in the presence of one of the world’s greatest aviation legends was a breath-taking experience
She commented: “The launch of the Schwarzkopf Essential Looks collection is a major event for the hairdressing industry, but in their 111th anniversary year the team decided to really pull out all the stops and shift things up a gear. I couldn’t believe it when they told me the ‘venue’ was in the Concorde hangar.
“In hairdressing, image is vitally important, and the mere sight of Concorde as a backdrop to the collection really did take your breath away.”
Charlie, who has salons in Perth, Dundee, St Andrews and Bridge of Allan, travelled down to Manchester to present the collection, a showcase of the leading catwalk trends, to hundreds of professional hairdressers.
She concluded: “Every so often in life, you are gifted an experience that will live with you forever. Concorde is a stunning feat of aeronautical engineering and I am really honoured to have had the opportunity to perform my trade in its very presence.”
