GLASGOW-based agency Merchant Soul has been appointed as the Scottish Golf Union’s (SGU) marketing partner, following a competitive pitch.
Their remit is primarily to help recruit and retain golf club membership in Scotland by supporting clubs with national and local marketing activity, whilst Merchant Soul will also work on adding value to other SGU products and services throughout the year.
Their remit encompasses both online and offline marketing.
Work will commence in April with activity focused around the relaunch of Scottish Golf Awareness Week, the week after the US Masters.
Ross Duncan, marketing and sponsorship manager at the Scottish Golf Union, said:
“We had a really high calibre of submission but Merchant Soul’s presentation stood out, both in terms of strategy and creativity.
“We were impressed with the way they approached this year’s membership recruitment and retention campaign, as well as the proactivity they demonstrated through some exciting new ideas to help increase the value proposition of golf club membership.
“We look forward to working with Merchant Soul to develop these plans and ideas with them. ”
Stephen Halpin, MD at Merchant Soul, said:
“We’re delighted to be working with such a prestigious organisation at what is an important time for both the SGU and its member clubs. There appears to be a growing recognition that golf clubs simply can’t sit back and wait on new members joining. There needs to be more of a customer focus in their communications and activities. We are really looking forward to working with Ross, his colleagues and partners in the months ahead.”
