NEWSPAPER articles can challenge public beliefs. So, Epilepsy Scotland provides a Journalist of the Year award.
We offer a £500 prize for the most accurate and responsible article published on epilepsy in the Scottish press during 2009/10.
Journalists can help us challenge misinformation about this common but serious neurological condition. A powerful partnership of words and images can help to change hearts and lives. Our award is a novel way to inform and educate the public.
All you have to do is make sure that your story appears in a Scottish publication between 1 February 2009 and 31 January 2010.
So, boot up your computers and type your way to success.
Award rules:
Entries must be published between 1 February 2009 and 31 January 2010 in newspapers and magazines principally serving the Scottish market
Any aspect of epilepsy can be covered. Individual journalists may submit more than one article about epilepsy. Entries will not be returned
It is important that all cuttings are original. Faxed copies are unacceptable
All entries should be mounted on A4 or A3 paper. Each must include the name of the newspaper in which it was published and the date of publication. A separate A4 sheet listing the name, postal and email address and a contact telephone number for the journalist will accompany each entry
Entries must reach the communications manager no later than 5pm on Monday 8 February 2010. The address for entries is: Epilepsy Scotland, 48 Govan Road, Glasgow, G51 IJL. Epilepsy Scotland staff and board members are not eligible to enter
If a submission does not adhere to the competition rules, it will be subject to disqualification at the discretion of the judging panel.
The winning journalist will receive £500 and a framed certificate. These will be presented during an award ceremony on Thursday 18 March 2010 at the Roxburghe Hotel, Edinburgh where Epilepsy Scotland’s black tie gala dinner is being held.
