AS retail gears up for a busy festive period, St John’s Shopping Centre, Perth, has announced that this Christmas they will be getting into the festive spirit with a traditional Christmas theme featuring Santa (dressed in red!) and decorations that capture a child’s view of Christmas.
The shopping centre, which is situated right at the heart of Perth, opens its doors to Santa this Saturday, 21st November, when he will make his grand arrival on a sleigh pulled by a team of huskies at approximately 12 noon.
Santa will start his parade from Perth Concert Hall at 11.30am proceeding up Perth High Street and through St John’s Shopping Centre to his cosy living room grotto situated at the South Street Entrance. He will be accompanied in the parade by his friends from the cast of Pinocchio, Perth Theatre’s Christmas show who will lead everyone to Santa’s grotto for its grand opening at 12 noon.
Once the grotto is open, Santa will be available until 5pm to welcome little boys and girls, and hear their Christmas wishes. Visits to Santa this year are free, although Santa’s gifts and photographs will incur a charge.
At 12 noon, visitors to the shopping centre can also get into the Christmas spirit with a little help from St Ninian’s Cathedral Choir who will be carol singing at the Mercat Cross until 2pm. Santa’s huskies will also be available for viewing and petting until 1pm outside Waterstones at the King Edward Street entrance.
Santa commented, “I’m so excited to be returning to St John’s Shopping Centre this year, the children of Perthshire, Tayside and North-east Fife are always so well behaved and it’s a pleasure to visit them on Christmas Eve. I look forward to meeting them all over the coming weeks and hearing what they want for Christmas.”
Siobhan McConnell, St John’s Shopping Centre manager, added: “We’re delighted to be welcoming Santa into his fabulous living room grotto where the elves have been hard at work this week making some lovely presents for Santa to give out to the all good little girls and boys. We wish everyone a very merry Christmas from all of us here at St John’s Shopping Centre.”
Perthshire families are encouraged to show their support by joining Santa’s parade which starts from Horsecross at 11.30am on Saturday 21st November and will travel up Perth High Street to the St John’s Shopping Centre where there will be a grand opening of Santa’s Grotto at 12 noon.
