COVERING one of the most remarkable decades in Celtic’s history, Celtic – The Supersonic 70s is published on Wednesday 14 October by Edinburgh-based Black & White Publishing.
Celtic – The Supersonic 70s invites readers to relive the story of Celtic, the stars, the tantalising title jousts, the titanic Cup finals, the tasty European adventures and a decade that altered fashions, fads, futures and football.
The story joins Hoops supremo, Big Jock Stein, halfway through his nine-in-a-row league title run with Celtic and charts the Scottish Cup glories, the League Cup riddles, the European adventures and the worst on and off-field disasters of the decade, concluding with Billy ‘Cesar’ McNeill’s ten-man attempting to end the ‘70s with the title back on the Paradise sideboard.
Penned by broadcaster, writer, producer and stand-up comic, Gerard McDade, Celtic – The Supersonic 70s is a rollicking romp through a decade of triumphs and disasters both on and off the pitch.
And the author insists that the story is “not just about footy”.
McDade said: “They say that if you remember the ‘60s, then you weren’t really there – but if you remember the ‘70s, then chances are your only vices were Spangles, Chopper bikes and too much time spent watching great football! It’s certainly true if you followed Celtic. “In the 70s players had G-Plan kitchens, eight-track cartridges, bellbottoms, big collars and even bigger hair. They could boogie to Bolan, pogo to Punk and still laugh at Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em! Modern footballers couldn’t do half of that without running it past their PA or B-List Celeb wife!”
Celtic – The Supersonic 70s fondly recalls a time when football and fashion intertwined to the sounds of glam rock and punk and the world changed forever – from Wilson to Thatcher, from Bolan to Rotten, from The Persuaders to The Professionals, from Choppers to skateboards and from the First Division to the Premier League.
Brilliant entertainment, Celtic – The Supersonic 70s! is published in paperback by Black & White on 14 October at £9.99.
