MOBO nominee and R&B star, Lemar, is set to return to Scotland this festive season to entertain revellers at the Paisley Christmas Lights Switch On.
The singer will be joined by Spanish sensation, Ruth Lorenzo, who wowed X Factor’s audiences with her feisty performances last year.
Singer/songwriter, Lemar, is one of the UK’s best vocalists with each of his albums selling in excess of 500,000 copies each.
Organisers of the event, which takes place on Saturday November 14th, are hoping the combination of the two performers will encourage visitors from near and far to join in the celebrations.
Council leader and chair of the Paisley Vision Board, Cllr Derek Mackay, said:
“Following last year’s major investment in making the lights switch on a bigger and better event this year we have managed to attract a huge star in Lemar and we are really delighted that he will be part of our festivities.
“I am sure that both performers will live up to expectations and prove to be a real treat for everyone who attends this year.”
The festivities will kick off at 10am with the opening of the craft and farmers markets, and with the Tobogan Ride and SnowBeach open again for the youngsters there will be something for everyone on offer.
Provost, Celia Lawson, is already looking forward to the event.
She said: “The Christmas lights switch on is really the kick off to the festive season in Paisley and it is an event that everyone looks forward to. Our annual parade with Santa and his reindeers is a real highlight and we are delighted that Lemar and Ruth Lorenzo will be providing the entertainment.”
“We are also happy to say that our friends at Clyde 1 will be with us to get the party started with DJs, Adrian Coll, Colin Kelly and Gina McKie, on hand with their usual fun and frolics. I am sure that the thousands estimated to turn out on the day will have a fantastic time.
“The lights switch on in Paisley has grown so much over the last couple of years that it is now a real calendar highlight in the town and we are again hoping to attract some really big crowds.”
The Reindeer Parade will begin at 12noon from Gilmour Street with the markets and rides all open right through until 5.30pm.
The Clyde One Roadshow will kick off at 2.30pm with Ruth Lorenzo taking to the stage at 3.15pm.
Lemar will perform at 4.55pm and the big switch on will take place at 5.30pm.
