FRANK To, the young Glasgow-based artist whose unique painting technique is garnering him international recognition as a leading contemporary figurative painter amongst art critics and high-profile collectors alike, is set to reveal the secrets behind his creative process for the first time by offering art lovers a rare opportunity to see for themselves how he creates his work by inviting them to this year’s WASPS Open Studio Event on 3-4 October.
Frank said: “My painting technique is inspired by a story attributed to the Renaissance sculptor, Michelangelo. It was said Michelangelo could visualise the human form within a block of marble. In the same way, I tease out figures from initially abstract images.
“I’ll be demonstrating in detail how my paintings are created for the first time at the forthcoming open studio event. Anyone interested to find out more about my creative process is welcome to come and visit me at work in my studio.”
Those who opt to take To up on his offer will be following in the footsteps of Patrick Stewart. The celebrated actor, arguably best known for Star Trek, is probably To’s most famous collector.
