FASHION and textile designer businesses in the Outer Hebrides are being invited to attend an one-to-one consultation on their businesses today (Wednesday) following a marketing workshop in Stornoway yesterday.
Around 15 designers attended the workshop, which was aimed at developing knowledge in key business areas and building up active networks.
Organised by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) the event was free and delivered by three specialists working at the top of the field in design and marketing – Anne Ritchie, Kirsty Scott and Fiona Duff.
Held in HIE’s boardroom in James Square, speakers reviewed global trends, offered delegates the chance to assess options for their own business and develop strategies for profitable growth.
The event covered product and design for different markets, and using trade shows and customer information to stay one step ahead of the competition. A third component looked at developing business connections through networking, and practical development of marketing and PR strategies. Delegates were taken through practice scenarios giving them the confidence to develop new skills.
Margaret MacLeod, HIE’s head of Business Growth in the Outer Hebrides, said: “The workshop was carefully tailored to the needs of design businesses in the Outer Hebrides and the chance of an one-to-one consultation today will be of real benefit to the specific aims of each participant. It’s a fantastic opportunity for them to address knowledge and information gaps and will help them get a better understanding of specialist subject matters and constraints faced by designers in the area.”
