Media Release: Scotland has its own, unique ‘taste dialect’

HAGGIS might remain a firm traditional favourite for the people of Scotland, but it is actually tablet that is the more influential food – according to research published today which unveils real science behind the development of regional food and drink preferences.

The research identifies direct links between the local culture, geography, environment and regional foods, proving that taste is determined by where we’re from and that like accents, each region of the UK has its own unique ‘taste dialect’.

Taste preferences of the UK’s major regions have been analysed by top food psychologist, Greg Tucker, with input from Andy Taylor, Professor of Flavour Technology from the University of Nottingham and advisor to Heston Blumenthal.
