DUMFRIES and Galloway Council, organisers of The Original Bicycle Festival, Scotland’s Homecoming cycling festival, are searching for up to 50 volunteers to work on the sixteen-day event that will be staged across the region from 9 to 24 May 2009.
The festival’s packed programme of elite and open mountain bike and road cycling events, guided rides, rallies and coaching sessions, youth and women’s activities celebrates the region’s rich cycling legacy. Dumfries and Galloway boasts five of the world renowned 7stanes mountain bike trail centres and is also the birthplace of the pedal cycle.
The Original Bicycle Festival will also complement and support the World Mountain Bike Conference on Sustainability (WMBCS), which takes place at Easterbrook Hall at The Crichton, Dumfries, from 12 to 15 May 2009.
Ian Barr, events strategy officer of Dumfries & Galloway Council, said: “Volunteering at The Original Bicycle Festival will, we hope, be a fun and rewarding experience. Like any other international sporting event our enthusiastic volunteers will be crucial to the success of The Original Bicycle Festival.”
