NHS Lothian is Scotland’s best-performing mainland health board on cancer treatment, board members were told yesterday.
The March meeting of NHS Lothian’s board was updated on the performance of NHS Lothian against government standards.
Says a spokesperson: “Treatment was started within the expected time for all people urgently referred to NHS Lothian’s experts in cancer in February, according to a paper debated at the meeting.
“The government standard states 95 per cent of patients should begin treatment within 62 days of their urgent referral to specialist cancer services.”
Dr Charles Swainson, medical director, NHS Lothian, said: “I am delighted that we are sustaining our achievement and continuing to deliver swift high-quality care for our patients.”
