A THOUSAND children are to get free entry to a St Mirren Scottish Premier League game after Braehead offered to pay for their tickets.
The shopping centre – already the Paisley club’s main sponsors – has agreed a deal giving 1,000 children free entry to the St Mirren versus Hibernian game at the Buddies new stadium, on Monday, April 13.
And the move has been given the backing of Scotland’s Sports Minister, Shona Robison after the Scottish Government encouraged football clubs to do all they can to attract youngsters to matches.
Ms Robison said: “I am pleased to be able to promote this excellent scheme and I would like to commend Braehead and St Mirren for making it happen.
“Offering children free entry to selected football games can bring benefits to both clubs and children across the country.
“I am optimistic that schemes such as this will increase participation and improve our performance in sport by inspiring more young people to get involved in our national game and lead more active, healthier lives.
“I know other clubs are already doing this, and I would like to encourage more SPL and SFL sides to get on board.”
