Media Release: Cannes winner to give masterclass at ECA

Sergey Dvortsevoy Comes to Edinburgh: Fri 20 Feb 2009

SDI is thrilled to host multi-award winning Kazakh filmmaker Sergey Dvortsevoy in Edinburgh to talk about his work!

This really is a one-off masterclass that is not to be missed.

Winner of ‘Un Certain Regard’ this year at Cannes Film Festival, the fast disappearing world of nomadic sheep herders in Kazakhstan is dramatised in the part fictional, part documentary film, ‘Tulpan’, his first feature length film, which is also screening at Glasgow Film Festival on 21 February.

Sergey will talk about his recent switch from documentary filmmaking to the world of fiction and how the different genres inform each other. He will talk about and show clips of his series of award-winning short documentaries, including ‘Paradise’ (1996), ‘Highway’ (1999) and ‘In The Dark’ (2004). He has won well over 50 awards for his work and screened in most of the prominent festivals in the world. Sergey is sure to inspire!

For an insight into the mind of this unique filmmaker, please read an interview Emma Davie (SDI consultant and ECA tutor) wrote for DOX magazine: http://docscene.org/Dvortsevoy-The-breath-of-film-making.html
