A SEIES of events held by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) to encourage maximising the economic impact of the road equivalent tariff (RET) pilot are revealing interesting results.
The sessions, held across the RET pilot area, and culminating in the final two events in Stornoway (19 February) and Ullapool (20 February), have seen members of the local communities come together to discuss ways in which the impact of the RET pilot can help their businesses and the local economy.
Previous events have highlighted the opportunities for individuals and businesses to develop new services and facilities taking advantage of a potentially larger customer base.
The RET is being piloted by Scottish Government until Spring 2011. The pilot routes are Stornoway to Ullapool; the triangular route between Uig on Skye, Tarbert on Harris and Lochmaddy in North Uist; and the routes linking Oban, Coll, and Tiree, Castlebay and Lochboisdale.
