THE ‘Xmas Factor’ came to Ayr this week as judges for the Best Dressed Christmas Window Awards 2008 made their way around town, where they deliberated, discussed and decided marks.
Entrants were assessed on a number of criteria, ranging from artistic merit to originality and, with awards available to the ‘Best Multiple Retailer ‘and ‘Best Independent Retailer’ the competition was fierce, but fun!
In the end, the Accessorize on Ayr’s High Street was chosen as the Best Dressed Window for 2008 in the Multiple Retailer category, with Henderson’s as runner-up.
In the Independent Retailer category, the Best Dressed window was won by the Pillar Box in the Sandgate with William Bell Menswear the runner-up.
Provost Winifred Sloan, who led the judging party through the town, said: “Once again choosing the winner was a difficult but enjoyable task. This year we were impressed by the effort, enthusiasm and commitment of the entrants. I would like to congratulate all those who took part this year and especially the Pillar Box and Accessorize for their award-winning displays.”
The competition was supported by Ayr and Prestwick Lions, Ayr Retailers Committee, Ayr Rotary Club, Ayr Chamber of Commerce, Ayr Guildry and Ayr Flower Show.
The winners and runners up with a beautiful crystal award were: Jim Young, President Ayr & Prestwick Lions Club, John Walker, Chairman Ayr Flower Show and Vice Dean Ayr Guildry, Provost Winifred Sloan and Johnnie Kean of Ayr Rotary Club.
