ST Mirren fans will get the chance to meet Saints legend Billy Abercromby at a special book signing session.
Aber, as he is known to St Mirren supporters, will join top radio and TV football pundit, Bill Leckie at the Waterstone’s bookstore, in Braehead at 2pm on Sunday, November 23.
The pair will be signing copies of Leckie’s new book – Endless Love – about the final whistle being blown on St Mirren’s Love Street ground.
Leckie said: “Aber is one of my all-time favourite players and you can be sure I’ll be getting him to sign my copy of Endless Love.
“It’s fantastic that Aber is coming along to Waterstone’s so that fans buying Endless Love can get to meet him and get their copy of the book signed.
“Aber epitomised the best bit of Love Street over the past 115 years – and that’s the spirit of the supporters. He took the enthusiasm and passion of St Mirren fans who packed the terraces and stands and brought that on to the pitch when he was playing.
“Aber was the fans on the park.”
Billy Abercromby – the only living St Mirren captain to hold aloft the Scottish Cup – was a huge favourite with St Mirren fans because of his tough-tackling style in midfield. He said: “I was at Love Street for 14 years and the old stadium holds so many memories for me.
“Winning the Anglo-Scottish Cup in 1980 and the Scottish Cup in 1987 were obvious highlights in my career at Love Street, but the best bit was running on to the park and seeing the reaction of the fans in the North Bank.
“It was a fantastic feeling when I heard them chant ‘Aber’s gonnae get you’ and they would be really disappointed if I didn’t give them a body during the game.”
