WEST, Glasgow’s state-of-the-art independent brewery based in the iconic Templeton Building on Glasgow Green, has launched a new premium bottled lager under the name ‘St. Mungo’.
The new product launch marks the first time that the company, which brews the only beers in the UK to meet the Reinheitsgebot of 1516 (The German Purity Law, the oldest food law in the world which ensures only the finest, purest beer is deemed fit for consumption), has bottled one of its beers for off-site sales.
St. Mungo, WEST’s homage to Glasgow’s patron saint and fellow brewer, has been given a bold and contemporary brand identity designed to appeal to design-conscious consumers with an abiding love for truly great beer.
WEST’s German MD, Petra Wetzel, said: “We have developed a unique new beer recipe for these stylish 330ml bottles of WEST St. Mungo. The beer we have created is a light golden lager at 4.9% ABV and is, as it says on the bottle, pure heavenly.
“WEST has always attracted people looking for something a bit different from the mainstream and the distinctive identity of the St Mungo bottle and labelling very much reflects the taste, attitude and accent on style and quality that typifies our expanding customer base.”
The brewery has already received numerous pre-orders from customers as varied as the Malmaison Hotel Group, to small corner shops and off licences and demand for this first limited batch of 10,000 bottles is estimated to be significant.
WEST operates a full production brewery and is home to a stylish beer hall and restaurant with a beer garden overlooking Glasgow Green. WEST brewery, bar & restaurant is open seven days a week, 11am till 11pm Sunday to Thursday and 11am to midnight Friday and Saturday. Brewery tours are available by arrangement.
