DESPITE just missing out on this year’s Mercury Prize to the Arctic Monkeys, Richard Hawley’s album ‘Coles Corner’ has enjoyed the biggest rise in sales among any of the nominated artists since the result was announced on Tuesday night – registering nearly a five-fold increase at HMV.
Winners, Arctic Monkeys, have also seen a lift of just over 50 per cent, which is impressive given that they sell consistently well and have already sold a million copies of their album ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’ to date – thereby starting from a higher sales base. Pls. see attached picture below.
HMV measured combined sales for Wednesday and Thursday of this week (the two days
immediately after the award was announced) and compared this with the equivalent two days last week to give a ‘like-for-like’ indication of how much sales have risen by due to the ‘Mercurys effect’.
