AMERICAN singer-songwriter, Joanna Newsom’s ‘Ys’ is the UK critics’ Album of the
Year, according to HMV’s unique poll of polls.
Each year HMV compile the polls of polls, taken from 24 individual end-of-year lists
published in national music magazines, newspapers, listings guides and on the
Internet.
In an extremely close battle, Joanna Newsom’s album – the follow-up to her
much-lauded 2004 debut, ‘The Milk-Eyed Mender’ – just edges out UK band Hot Chip’s
‘The Warning’, which was shortlisted for the 2006 Nationwide Mercury Prize.
