CAIRNHILl Structures, the leading structural steel engineer and steel fabricator, has become one of the first contractors in the UK to actively take the important message of environmental sustainability into schools.
In an sector-leading move, Coatbridge-based Cairnhill has devoted time and resources to creating bespoke sustainability modules which explain the vital connections between industry and the finite resources of the natural world.
The educational resource, which contains models and training packs designed to engender greater understanding of sustainability, is being introduced at St Patrick’s School in Coatbridge, a historic steel-producing area, and could be rolled out to other schools in the area.
The move emphasises Cairnhill’s practical commitment to sustainability, a policy which it has pioneered within the industry.
The company has set itself, and met, stringent sustainability targets over the past two years, resulting in it becoming the only structural steel works in Scotland to receive the British Construction Steelwork Association’s Sustainability Award.
Cairnhill, part of the Watson-Towers group of companies, has created some of the most high-profile steel structures in Scotland, including the pergola at the Scottish Parliament building in Edinburgh, the HQ of Renfrewshire Council in Paisley and the Forth Bridge toll canopies.
