HUNDREDS of Guiders from across Scotland gathered in Glasgow at the weekend to map the future of the organisation and to reflect on landmarks achieved throughout the past year.
There was a final milestone, as Liz Pitcairn, Scottish chief commissioner, was presented with Girlguiding’s highest honour, the prestigious Silver Fish. The award was made in recognition of her tireless work for the organisation at Scottish, UK and world level.
Members of Girlguiding Scotland were joined by distinguished invited guests including Eleanor Lyall MBE, the Scottish chief commissioner for Scouts in Scotland; Anne Hosie MBE, the national president of the Girls’ Brigade Scotland, Jim Lugton of the Scottish Council of Voluntary Organisations and Liz Burnley, the Chief Guide.
The event, A Journey with Girlguiding Scotland, emphasised how members, aged from five to 65, choose their own routes through a varied and exciting programme of events and activities.
Twenty-six year-old Ruth Ohldag, a guider from Angus and presenter for the event, said: “During the last twelve months, girls and leaders continued to enjoy following their own unique journey. Some made small steps; others took giant leaps.”
