AS newly-crowned world champions, George Watson’s Pipes and Drums were the ones to beat at the last major championship of the season, the Cowal Highland Gathering on Saturday – but they didn’t let that faze them.
The Juvenile Band, Juvenile Drums and the Novice Juvenile Drums all followed up their world championship wins by winning their competitions. They also won their respective Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association Champion of Champions Awards (all for the sixth year running), which was testimony to their consistency throughout the season and over the last few years.
The Novice Juvenile band came second, their best result this season in a major championship, a result which helped them to achieve third place in their Champion of Champions table.
Mr Gareth Edwards, Principal, said: “The band members and their instructors work extremely hard; consistent success at such a high level does not come without dedicated practice and a desire to do the best they possibly can.
“We are all very proud of their talent and how well they represent the School, not only in Scotland but around the world. Piping is a renowned advertisement for all that is best about Scotland and the nation as a whole can feel proud of the Watson’s Pipes and Drums.”
