Media Release: Log on to get unique shots of the great outdoors

BT Scotland Young E-ntrepreneur of the year, Philip Price, harnessed the power of the internet to set up and promote Loch Visions, a wildlife photography business run from a remote Argyll estate on the shores of Loch Awe.

A professional freelance photographer, Philip runs one-day wildlife experiences at the woodland estate which boasts viewing platforms, hides and forest glade meadows. As well as giving visitors a rare opportunity to capture wildlife on film in its natural habitat, Philip offers tailored packages for experienced photographers.

A 45-minute drive from the nearest amenities, his business relies on a digital platform to manage and market his business. The whole operation relies on e-technology, from ordering stock and equipment on-line, to selling photographs and gift vouchers.

Organised by the Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust (PSYBT), the BT Scotland Young E-ntrepreneurs Award recognised Philip’s eagerness to adopt the latest technology to build his business.

Philip said: “Quite simply, my business would not be viable without e-commerce. I can upload leaflets, cards and large canvasses for professional printing and that helps me to keep travelling costs down and substantially reduce the carbon footprint of my business.

“Digital photography allows my customers to enjoy the complete Loch Vision Experience in a day. They learn the basics of photography, spend time on location, head back to the studio to process their shots, and go home with a treasured print of spectacular wildlife.

Philip was helped to set up with business start-up assistance from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and PSYBT and, thanks to an e-commerce course run by HIE Argyll and the Islands, has developed his website. The site www.lochvision.co.uk has gone from registering no hits at all, to an average of 700 hits a month.

HIE Argyll and the Islands head of growing businesses Angela Vernel said: “Loch Visions is a great example of what can be achieved when you set your heart on something. If Philip continues to show such clear commitment, I have no doubt that he will succeed in his ambition to become an internationally acclaimed wildlife photographer.”

Philip is launching two new experiences for this year, City Vision; giving children the opportunity to see and photograph city wildlife, and Sea Vision; wildlife trips to seal and puffin colonies.
