PATIENTS in NHS Lothian are being cared for by record numbers of highly-skilled clinical staff, according to new figures.
There were over 1,800 doctor posts in Lothian in 2007-8 and over 6,500 registered nurse positions, according to a new analysis.
The NHS Lothian workforce report shows there were 1,818 jobs for doctors and 6,575 full time posts for registered nurses.
This compares with 1773 medical posts in 2006-7 – an increase of 44 – and 6,476 registered nurses – an increase of 99 posts.
Dr Charles Swainson, medical director, NHS Lothian, said: ”We have been able to invest in our front line services – our clinical staff – and our patients are seeing the benefit.”
