NEW rules on registration with the General Dental Council come into force at the end of July – and dental care professionals who fail to register will not be allowed to work after that date.
NHS Lothian is urging staff who may on career breaks, or raising families, to act now to ensure they retain the option of coming back to work easily without having to go through a training period again.
Dental care professionals are dental nurses, dental technicians, dental therapists and dental hygienists.
Colwyn Jones, consultant in Dental Public Health, NHS Lothian, said: “We know that there are many dental care professionals not currently working, for whatever reason, who will find themselves effectively excluded from working in dentistry after this cut off date unless they act now.”
