A REPORT by care watchdogs has praised the way Kibble Education and Care Centre looks after youngsters.
Says a spokesperson: “Earlier this year, the Care Commission and HM Inspectorate of Education carried out an inspection at Kibble, in Paisley and their recently published report said: ‘Teachers promoted a positive climate for learning and had high expectations of learners and their achievements. They were well organised and skilled in responding positively to inappropriate behaviour and maintaining a focus on learning. Relationships among staff and pupils were marked with mutual respect. Challenging behaviour was managed without confrontation and any use of inappropriate language by pupils was effectively dealt with by staff.'”
Added the spokesperson: “Staff treated pupils fairly and consistently, the report also said: ‘All pupils knew that they would be supported if they raised a matter of concern. They felt safe and secure and staff praised them when they did something well. Pupils appreciated the range of enjoyable learning experiences in the school. Staff liked working in the school and thought the school was well led.’
”Kibble is the largest multi-service centre in the United Kingdom specialising in work with young people at risk. It provides community outreach, residential care, secondary education, intensive fostering, secure care and employment training for care leavers delivered through KibbleWorks – a portfolio of social enterprises.”
The education and care centre employs more than 400 staff and boys from all over Scotland are referred to Kibble by the courts, the Children’s Hearing system and local authorities.
Inspectors also stated that local authorities who placed boys at Kibble were positive about the service provided there.
The spokesperson also said: “The report noted: ‘Most authorities responded to the request to comment and stated that they would readily use the service for their young people. As a result of the high performance, the strong record of improvement and the very effective leadership of this school, HM Inspectors will make no further reports in connection with this inspection.’”
Kibble’s chief executive, Graham Bell, said: “Young people come here because they need specialist support and stability and that is exactly what we give them.
“Our aim is to use the expertise and skills of our staff to give the boys the best possible care and education, so they can realise their full potential and play a positive role in society when they become older.”
