A DOZEN pupils from Mearns Primary School met up with Newton, the new life-sized mall-mascot at The Avenue Shopping Centre in Newton Mearns this week to help launch Walk to School Week.
A national campaign with a simple aim – to encourage all parents and children to make walking to school part of their daily routine – Walk to School Week is run by Living Streets, the national charity which stands up for pedestrians.
The Avenue Shopping Centre was identified as the ideal starting off point for primary school pupils to walk to school.
Michelle McCabe, centre manager at The Avenue, said: “A scientist, Newton knows the answers to everything – or at least he thinks so! As such, just loves to get involved in all sorts of local education initiatives, just like Walk to School Week.”
The Avenue Shopping Centre offers shoppers an alternative to sprawling trolley-dash shopping culture with a comprehensive range of outlets offering a warm and welcoming shopping experience conveniently located on the outskirts of Glasgow city centre.
