A WEBSITE created by leading Glasgow design agency, 999, has ‘struck’ gold after winning a top award in the Scottish College’s Marketing Awards.

Voted for by students, the website picked up the prestigious ‘Student’s Award for Best Website’ ahead of other educational institutions in Scotland.

The 999 team built and designed Stow College’s new content management system (CMS) website, which launched in April 2009, to create a strong online identity that would make the college stand apart from its competitors and appeal to potential students aged between 16-25.

Richard Bissland, managing director of 999 Design commented:

“Winning the gold in this particular category is a great coup for 999 and for Stow College, especially since it was voted for by the students themselves.

“We took the site and revamped it away from the traditional educational format to create something totally different.

“The youth appeal really centres on the community section of the site, where current and prospective students are able to contact each other online and plot themselves on Google Maps Mashup. They can also join dedicated college forums and access various social media networking sites via the Stow website.”

Hilary Ramsay, marketing manager at the college, said: “999 Design impressed us with their attention to detail. Research into our specific needs, our background and heritage as well as our future requirements, was incorporated into their strategy.

“Since the revamp, site visits have increased by 81 per cent, average time spent on the site has increased by 54 per cent and online applications have soared.”
