‘CHOOSE Your Adventure’ is Sir Jimmy Savile’s call to action on the new tourism promotional viral video for Fort William and Lochaber, the ‘Outdoor Capital of UK’, recently launched on You Tube – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WSsyfjytJA – with more than 27,000 views to date.
This action-packed tour of Fort William and Lochaber, starring Sir Jimmy Savile, combines the stunning landscape of the ‘Outdoor Capital’ with tongue-in-cheek humour and incredible sporting stunts.
With growth fund support from VisitScotland, ‘The Outdoor Capital of the UK’, the destination management organisation for Lochaber and Fort William, commissioned local video production company, MTBcut, to create a series of viral videos to promote the area as the UK’s premier destination for outdoor pursuits and adventure tourism.
‘Choose Your Adventure’ is the second video in the series and sees Sir Jimmy reflecting on a lifetime of fantastic activities and adventures in the ‘Outdoor Capital’.
He focuses on mountain biking, ice climbing, skiing in Glencoe, kayaking in Glen Nevis and fell-running to the summit of Ben Nevis.
Stunt doubles dressed in the legendry shell suit and classic cigar demonstrate a range of incredible sporting skills and stunts.
Street trials sensation, Danny MacAskill, UK downhill mountain bike pro and skier Joe Barnes, climber Mike Pescod, canoeist Callum Anderson and cyclist and cross-country runner, David ‘Spook’ Munro all donned the shiny sell suit, white wig and fat cigar to double as the legendary DJ, Top of the Pops presenter, marathon runner and fixer.
Frazer Coupland, project director at the ‘Outdoor Capital’ and wannabe film director, reports: “With this new promotional video we wanted to promote Fort William and Lochaber, not only as the country’s top spot to experience outdoor pursuits, but also as the best place for everyone to enjoy the outdoors, in as humorous and memorable way as possible.
“What better man to front up such a film than Sir Jimmy Savile? After all, he has been an icon of the barmy and bizarre for more than six decades and a long-term resident of Glencoe.
“The stunt doubles we used are extremely talented sportsmen who are all at the top of their game but more than anything these guys were up for a laugh!
“I feel sure that many will recognise the skills and talents of the likes of Mike Pescod, Callum Anderson and Danny MacAskill (some of them are as famous as Sir Jim himself!) that are on display in the film.
“They highlight a series of fluid moves on a steep ice face, some awesome early season skiing in Glencoe, mountain bike trials riding and some tricky white water river moves.
“Link this together with a multi-coloured VW campervan, and you have an awesome and hilarious adventure.’
The release of the film on YouTube is timed to coincide with the launch of the organisation’s new website provided by New Mind, an award-winning new media agency specialising in the tourism industry, this month.
New Mind were selected on the basis of their design expertise, flexibility and versatility of their eTourism solutions and their track record for destinations throughout the UK.
Like the stunning landscape of Lochaber itself, the new destination website will attract, entice and inspire with motivational content, seamless navigation and sophisticated planning tools.
It will also create sales and generate revenue, appeal to and inform prospective visitors whilst providing added value to the area’s tourism businesses (OCUK members).
The first video in the series was titled, ‘Iconic Adventures in the Outdoor Capital of the UK’, and followed a group of international delegates on their adventure activities in the ‘Outdoor Capital’ before they attended the Adventure Travel Tourism Association Summit.
It was an instant success too.
