THOMPSONS Personal Injury Solicitors Scotland announce a new, imaginative and fun way to secure a summer internship with ‘Law Idol: the no-win, no-fee internship’, a competition open to all Scottish, college and University students with the winner landing a two-month paid internship at one of their Scottish offices.
The prize itself is an extremely prestigious one given Thompsons’ reputation and track record of winning high-profile awards such as Law Firm of the Year 2009 and Frank Maguire as Solicitor of the Year in 2010 at the annual Law Awards; while the competition is a fresh and modern take on the interview process that should grab the imagination of the Scottish student population.
The competition will involve students preparing a blog post on the subjects of no-win, no-fee, accidents at work or car accidents; something that Thompsons specialise in and deal with on a day-to-day basis. After selecting the semi-finalists which will be the 20 best blog posts, Law Idol will work on the premise that the students use their social networking skills to gain votes on the blog post they submit.
The 20 semi-finalists can gain votes via three different channels including:
- Digging the post on Digg.com, which merits three votes;
- Retweeting the post on Twitter, which merits two votes and
- Liking and commenting on Facebook which merits one vote.
The five blog posts with the most votes then proceed to the final and the ultimate winner will be decided by the votes they attract for a video they prepare on ‘Why I should win the no win no fee internship’.
Thompsons aim for Law Idol is to give students the experience of what it is like to work for one of Scotland’s top personal injury law firms. Also Thompsons wish to create open relationships with colleges and Universities to facilitate the growth and personal development of their students in a corporate setting.
Patrick McGuire, partner at Thompsons, says: “The competition is designed to be fun. It will hopefully get people talking and that will mean that we get a lot of high quality entries. There is also a serious side to this. We are pleased to be offering students at colleges and Universities up and down Scotland the opportunity to demonstrate their talents in a multitude of fields through a variety of disciplines. In an economic climate with few opportunities, the Law Idol competition opens doors to a highly competitive industry. I wish all the entrants the best of luck.”
