LOVERS seeking a metropolitan touch this Valentines Day need look no further than Metropolitan cocktail bar and restaurant in Merchant Square, in the heart of Glasgow’s historic Merchant City, which has just launched its special Valentines menu for Monday 14th February.
Reflecting its specialism in locally-sourced Scottish a la carte at affordable prices, Metropolitan’s three course £21.95 Valentines menu, including a glass of bubbly, offers starters of: smoked duck, red pepper and cashew nut salad, with soy and ginger dressing; cream of vine tomato and basil soup with a baby mozzarella crouton; crab and crayfish tian, caviar and dill dressing, with seasonal leaves and cured cucumber and Galia melon with raspberry sorbet, pink peppercorn syrup and lychee salad.
The mains include: chicken stuffed with mango and brie, smoked bacon and sage dauphinoise with a thyme jus; steamed fillet of sea bass with crushed lemon new potatoes, razor clams and pernod sauce; Lovers Purse – filo parcel with goats cheese and ratatouille, served with roasted balsamic onions and basil pesto and an 8oz Scottish sirloin steak with grilled flat cap mushroom, beef tomato, onion rings, Maris Piper chips and peppercorn sauce.
The sweets are: passion fruit crème brulee with honey madelines; fresh strawberries, citrus shortbread served with a Chambord Chantilly cream; an orange chocolate brownie with chocolate caramel sauce and chopped pistachios and a selection of dairy ice creams.
Located on Candleriggs at the heart of the Merchant City, Glasgow’s cultural, fashion and food quarter, Merchant Square offers an eclectic selection of restaurants and cafes.
Once part of the old Glasgow Fruit Market, Merchant Square is imbued with the history of the area’s dominating Victorian architecture, although today this sense of history blends seamlessly with the distinctly cosmopolitan ambiance that pervades the surrounding cobbled streets that bring the outside in.
