A PRIME town centre retail unit has gone on the market following the closure of one of Peterhead’s longest-established businesses.
Walter D Allan closed its doors at Christmas after 75 years in the electrical goods business, supplying a range of television, audio and other electrical goods.
Owner, Roddy Allan, son of the founder, Walter, has retired after 50 years in the trade and the property at 39 Marischal Street is being marketed by FG Burnett.
The ground floor and first floor unit, extending to 5,300 sq ft, is expected to attract offers over £350,000.
FG Burnett director, Richard Noble, said: “With Roddy opting for retirement it is the end of an era for Peterhead shoppers who have shopped at Walter D Allan for generations.
“However, this is an excellent opportunity for another retailer to occupy a key site in Peterhead’s pedestrianised shopping area. It is not often a site of this size in the centre of town comes on the market and we expect a fair bit of interest.”
Roddy Allan said: “I am past retirement age and it’s with some regret I took the decision to close the doors. I hope whoever takes ownership of the site will enjoy an equally long and successful trade in Marischal Street.”
