THE Beer Café in Merchant Square in the heart of Glasgow’s historic Merchant City is inviting customers to drink the world – and receive a T-shirt with the slogan, ‘I Drank the World in The Beer Café’, for their efforts!
The Beer Café stocks a wide range of beer from every continent – almost 100 different brands – and now, in an initiative designed to encourage to customers to sample beers from different countries, it has introduced a loyalty scheme whereby every time a customer buys a beer they have a card stamped and when they get to 25 stamps they receive a free T-shirt.
Gerry Febers, joint owner of The Beer Café, said: “We’re always looking to encourage our customers to experiment with different beers and to appreciate that it’s not just the Germans and the Belgians who brew premium quality beer – Americans have some high-quality micro-breweries and we bring in beers from as far afield as Australia and Japan. A T-shirt is a fun way to encourage customers to experiment with different tastes and flavours.
“Our biggest sellers in The Beer Café are wheat beers, which we sell in 0.5 litre bottles because they represent better value for customers.
“We stay away from the beers that are brewed under licence in the UK in favour of importing beers direct from the country of origin. And amongst our beers available on draught are: Staropramen, Becksl Stella and Franziskaner and Kriek, a cherry beer.”
Located on Candleriggs at the heart of the Merchant City, Glasgow’s cultural, fashion and food quarter, Merchant Square offers an eclectic selection of restaurants and cafes.
Once part of the old Glasgow Fruit Market, Merchant Square is imbued with the history of the area’s dominating Victorian architecture, although today this sense of history blends seamlessly with the distinctly cosmopolitan ambiance that pervades the surrounding cobbled streets that bring the outside in.
