TWO Scottish racecourses have this week been honoured with ‘distinction’ at the inaugural British Showcase and Awards ceremony hosted by Racing for Change.
Says a spokesperson: “Judges from Racing for Change, the Racecourse Association and the O2 Arena praised both Hamilton Park and Musselburgh Racecourse for their innovative drives to raise the profile of horseracing in Scotland and increase revenue throughout the season.
“The pair was two of only five racecourses nationwide to receive the ‘distinction’ honour.
“Musselburgh was praised for creating a special Edinburgh Cup racing fixture which resulted in a 33 per cent increase in spectator numbers.
“Hamilton Park was honoured for diversifying its income streams through its pioneering stand alone concert featuring top UK boy band JLS in July which saw the racecourse welcome a record crowd of over 13,000 people.”
Vivien Kyles, chief executive of Hamilton Park Racecourse, said: “We are very pleased the judges recognised the success of our debut stand alone concert with JLS.
“Over the last two years, our strategy has been to develop Hamilton Park as an all-round entertainment venue and showcase our capacity for hosting high-profile, non-racing events in addition to providing top-class racing fixtures.
“We plan to build on the marked success of our inaugural stand alone concert and have already begun to put the wheels in motion for Hamilton Park to host similar events in the coming year.”
The chairof Racing Enterprise Ltd, Chris McFadden, added: “There were a large number of very strong entries for this inaugural showcase of initiatives from racecourses. Many were fantastic ideas, so choosing those to receive ‘distinctions’ was a difficult task.”
