Media release: Scottish factory launch brings world-class product to UK market

THE purpose-built factory for pioneering build system, ScotHaus, opens in Scotland today (24 November), which will make world-class, energy-efficient housebuilding technology available in the UK for the first time.

Born of a partnership between industry experts, Scotframe Timber Engineering and Precision Engineering Homes, the new low carbon ScotHaus system represents a multi-million pound investment and revolutionary solution to the future of sustainable housebuilding in the UK.

Says a spokesperson: “Unrivalled in the current market, ScotHaus is anticipating a strong future with order commitments already secured with developers from across the country.

“Based in Cumbernauld, the new factory will be supplying the ScotHaus product to the market UK-wide. Fitted with world leading, state-of-the-art equipment and technology, the factory is the first and only one to produce a product of this specification and performance in the UK.”

Ken Tod, co-founder of ScotHaus, commented: “The housebuilding and development sector is under enormous pressure to meet increasing building standards as the Government continues towards its target of zero carbon homes by 2016.

“Having worked extensively with leading German home manufacturers, we have gained extensive access to, and experience with, world-class technologies that are 50 years ahead of the UK market.

“We have taken this technology, improved on it and tailored a system specifically for the UK, which will put it ahead of the market for the first time.

“The ScotHaus product comprises a complete closed panel build system, uniquely inspired by proven German technology, which is manufactured within the factory and then assembled onsite with 48 hours.

“Providing optimum thermal efficiency along with market leading air tightness, the ScotHaus system surpasses UK building regulation requirements.”

Ken Tod continues: “Key advantages of the system include energy savings of up to 50 per cent compared to traditional build, and a reduction in build time of around 35-40 per cent which offers builders a significantly quicker route to sales revenue.

“We have secured forward order commitments, prior to the factory’s opening, with key developers for multiple sites across the UK and have every confidence that interest will significantly increase as the performance and quality of ScotHaus is seen in action.”

  • Thermal performance of at least 30 per cent above the current industry standard
  • Up to 70 per cent of build completed in factory compared to 30 per cent of traditional systems, resulting in maximum production in factory controlled conditions and minimal onsite construction
  • Wind and watertight onsite within one to two days
  • Energy savings of between 30 and 50 per cent, depending on house size
