A YOUNG North-east manufacturing company is celebrating a highly-successful first six months in business.
Ellon-based LFH Engineering has already achieved a number of significant developments in the short time since its launch in April, including increased staff numbers, the establishment of 24-hour operations and a six-figure investment in increasing production capabilities.
The company – which specialises in the manufacture of marine diesel engine coolant pumps – was established by local businessman, Les Hill, following his purchase of the pump manufacturing division of Peterhead-based Terex Powertrain Ltd.
Substantial investment has been key to LFH’s fledgling success. More than £400,000 has been spent recently on new manufacturing machinery and inspection equipment, as well as IT infrastructure, to enhance the company’s production capabilities.
Staffing levels have also increased significantly with 13 new employees having joined the company – adding to the 19 staff that initially transferred from Terex, following the management buy-out – taking the current total number of the LFH team to 32.
This figure is set to grow further as the company is actively seeking to increase the capacity of its design and engineering department.
This increase in headcount has already enabled LFH to establish a fully-manned night shift, and productivity and demand for the company’s services has risen to such a level that it is already considering extending its current premises to meet this need.
Managing director, Mr Hill, says the last six months have gone extremely well for the company.
He said: “It is particularly pleasing that our hard work and investment – both financially and in terms of time and effort – is being reflected in our sales, which have exceeded original projections.
“The transition of moving from Peterhead to Ellon has gone extremely smoothly with minimal disruption to production and sincere thanks must go to our team and to our clients who have fully appreciated our reasons for the move and have continued to support us during the formative period of the company.
“We consider the success we have enjoyed during the first six months of operation to be a very promising indicator for the future of LFH Engineering and we look forward to driving forward our expansion plans in 2011 and beyond.”
LFH Engineering is based at Castlepark Industrial Estate, Ellon, and has an impressive client list including Rolls Royce, MAN Diesel and Caterpillar.
The company recently achieved ISO 9001:2008 accreditation from the British Standards Institution (BSI) enabling it to become a preferred supplier within the international marketplace for both new and existing purchasers of LFH pumps and associated products.
