BAFFIE.CO.UK is a brand, spanking new online gift shop, selling unique, handmade, affordable products for a stylish and comfortable home life.
Begins a spokesperson: “It’s a cottage industry, run single-handedly from East Lothian by Julia Douglas, an ambitious, respected and award-winning visual artist and designer, with an unquenchable passion for stylish, functional and carefully constructed home accessories.
“What makes baffie special is that Douglas personally cherrypicks the very best of handmade home comforts from Scotland and beyond, from creative, small, independent businesses, and that products are limited to only the most unique and high-quality so that customers can enjoy a leasurly browse without being overwhelmed by having to plough through hundreds of inferior products to finally stumble across what they desire.
“Though the website is run by Douglas, which gives it a truly personal feel, the site has been built by her husband, Colin Usher, who is part of the Edinburgh-based creative partnership, bluemungus, and whose technical and creative skills have made baffie.co.uk hearteningly professional.”
Get cosy, pull up a chair and pop into baffie.co.uk to enjoy a truly relaxing shopping experience.

In 1998, Douglas graduated from Grays School of Art with a degree in Textiles & Surface Decoration, she went on to complete a masters in Art & Design the following year and now has 11 years experience of working as a self-employed textile and mixed media artist and designer/maker.
Douglas has a passion for the home and the relationship people have with the objects they put in them to make them their own.
Having studied this subject continuously since graduating she now has an in-depth knowledge of home comforts.
She has developed a strong reputation for her works by exhibiting extensively, most recently in her solo exhibition, ‘Close-Knit’, shown in the Highlands of Scotland as the finale to an artist residency in Timespan, Helmsdale; has won a number of awards (including the prestigious Russell Trust Prize in Visual Arts Scotland’s 2008 Annual Exhibition, where she showed as a professional member) and was voted one of ‘The brightest and best Future 500 rising stars’ by Courvoisier in the Observer in 2007.
Last year, Douglas was selected to have one of her designs featured in craftscotland’s The C Word advertisement, which is showing in British, American and Canadian cinemas and on STV and she was also featured on Man Shops Globe on America’s Sundance Channel.
In the 11 years that Douglas has been practicing as a visual artist and designer, she has developed an expansive and hugely varied résumé, including running a plethora of workshops, working in art galleries in various guises, exhibiting widely and undertaking four artist residencies.
Finding appealing part time or temporary jobs became increasingly challenging for Douglas during the recent recession, so, with her versatility, drive and resourcefullness and Usher’s digital media savvy, they decided to combine their skills and create a new venture, baffie.co.uk.
Their combined passion, knowledge and commitment will guarantee that baffie.co.uk is one web address that should be watched with a close eye.
