THE award-winning Metropolitan cocktail bar, style bar, piano lounge and Scottish a la carte restaurant in Merchant Square – in the heart of Glasgow’s historic Merchant City – has introduced a new a la carte menu.
Conceived by head chef, Brian Hannah, who has worked in several Michelin-starred restaurants in his culinary career, the new menu reflects Metropolitan’s specialism in locally-sourced Scottish a la carte at affordable prices.
Starters on the new menu include: pumpkin and ricotta risotto with a poppy seed tuile; mackerel and crayfish tian with caviar dressing and seasonal leaves; fillet of beef carpaccio with parmesan shavings, cherry tomato and rocket salad and a balsamic reduction; partridge served with puy lentils, spinach, pomegranate and thyme sauce and gaufrette potatoes and trio of haggis – haggis tempura spring roll, haggis tower and haggis tortellini served with a mini fondant, turnip spaghetti, curly kale and Glenmorangie sauce.
The mains selection includes: roast breast of pheasant with truffled dauphine potatoes, smoked bacon and shallot curly kale, dark plums and a blackberry sauce; sea bream wrapped in spinach and lemon thyme with new potatoes, clams and mussels, roasted red pepper and a dill and vermouth sauce; loin of venison topped with morel mushroom mousse, dauphinoise potatoes, apple and red cabbage, roasted salsify and baby onions with a raspberry and blackcurrant jus and grilled fillets of rainbow trout, parmentier potatoes, spaghetti of carrot and courgette with a crayfish and orange sauce.
Manager, Darren Scott, said: “Metropolitan is justly renowned for its cocktail bar and style bar but it is our belief that our new a la carte menu will see Metropolitan take its rightful place at the top table of Glasgow’s vibrant restaurant sector.”
Located on Candleriggs at the heart of the Merchant City, Glasgow’s cultural, fashion and food quarter, Merchant Square offers an eclectic selection of restaurants and cafes.
Once part of the old Glasgow Fruit Market, Merchant Square is imbued with the history of the area’s dominating Victorian architecture, although today this sense of history blends seamlessly with the distinctly cosmopolitan ambiance that pervades the surrounding cobbled streets that bring the outside in.
