WITH Glasgow City Council’s anticipated introduction of Personalisation, which will change radically how service users receive care or support from the council’s Social Work Services, Glasgow-based Community Careline Services is offering service users free advice to explain the range of benefits for which they are eligible.
Says a spokesperson: “Self-Directed Support (SDS) aims to give service users more flexibility and choice over their care or support, though Community Careline points out that the widespread availability of SDS is not widely known amongst service users.”
Sally Millar, at Community Careline, said: “Provided it is properly monitored, we welcome SDS – although our experience suggests that many service users are not aware that that they may be eligible for financial assistance so we have employed a dedicated support worker to address this on a case-by-case basis with individual service users by explaining what is on offer – for free.”
The spokesperson continued: “Service users currently eligible for SDS include children in need, adults with physical or sensory impairments or a learning disability, mental health service users and older people.
“They can use the funds for: respite breaks at locations of your choice; someone to provide care and support to them in any setting; support with forms of employment; support with forms of further education and purchasing equipment and adaptations.
“Community Careline Services is a private company offering a wide range of social care, personal care, rehabilitation and domestic services to people in their own homes and out in the community. It has been providing Care in the Community since 1995.”
