THE opening later this month of the sumptuous new Boudoir Wine Bar in Glasgow’s Merchant Square will introduce a distinct French and Italian wine drinking culture to Merchant City, Glasgow’s cultural, fashion and food quarter.
The creation of Darren Scott – manager of next-door-neighbour, Metropolitan – the award-winning cocktail lounge, style bar and a la carte restaurant, Boudoir is a brand new venture that reflects his experiences working and travelling throughout France and Italy
Mr Scott said: “Boudoir is a French and Italian inspired wine bar, like the bustling back street wine bars that you come across in Rome, Paris, Nice or Verona – it’s the type of place where you stumble upon the organised chaos of a small, thriving bar where the staff know their customers by name and the service is of fine dining standard. That’s what Boudoir offers.
“Whilst our knowledge of wine and the way it should be served are impeccable – from the temperature of the wine to how the wine glass is held and how the wine is poured – rather than an intimidating atmosphere, Boudoir has been created with the express purpose of blending the best service and quality with a friendly, relaxed and welcoming space.

Located on a prominent corner site, at the junction of Candleriggs and Wilson Street, Boudoir is a contemporary wine bar offering an intimate, relaxing space featuring an opulent white, purple and black interior with plush, veiled booths and wine barrels with high-backed bar stools.
Damask-effect ceiling lighting casting colours and shapes adds to the vibrant ambiance of its interior.
Boudoir’s wine list – all chosen personally by Mr Scott – is one of largest bar lists in Glasgow. Featuring over 100 wines and champagnes, Boudoir offers 16 wines and four champagnes available by the glass.
Uniquely, Boudoir serves wine with a fresh approach, opting for 125ml and 175ml measures to offer customers both economy and an option for experimentation whilst encouraging sensible drinking.
The wine list ranges from £14.95 through to £160 a bottle with sparkling wine ranging from £23.95 through to £260 a bottle.
Whilst its emphasis is on wine, between 5-7pm Boudoir offers free mixed anti pasti, comprising Milano Salami, Parma Ham, Brie, Tallegio, olives and breads. Furthermore, there is a petite food offering all day ranging from pastries in the morning to small continental plates in the evening.
Located on Candleriggs at the heart of the Merchant City, Merchant Square offers an eclectic selection of restaurants and cafes.
Once part of the old Glasgow Fruit Market, Merchant Square is imbued with the history of the area’s dominating Victorian architecture, although today this sense of history blends seamlessly with the distinctly cosmopolitan ambiance that pervades the surrounding cobbled streets that bring the outside in.
