PIONEERING Scottish residential child care company, Common Thread, is delighted to launch ‘Join the Dance’.
Join the Dance has been organised in support of Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People – Tam Baillie – his consultation called A RIGHT BLETHER and BBC’s Children in Need 2010.
Common Thread created the event, which will take place on November 18, to unite the Scottish public in extending care beyond its own children in its residential homes.
The event will be a dance procession at the Scottish Parliament and throughout the adjoining concourse to Scots singing sensation Paolo Nutini’s hit ‘Pencil Full of Lead’. They will gather in front of Parliament in time for politicians emerging from First Minister’s Question Time at 1.30 p.m.
Begins a spokesperson: “The company also hopes to demonstrate its commitment to the welfare of children and young people and their right to have a voice. This is outlined in Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on Rights of the Child (UNCRC), which states: ‘Every child has the right to an opinion and for it to be listened to and taken seriously in matters that affect them.’
“A national consultation, A RIGHT BLETHER ensures the views of all children and young people are heard. It will culminate in a national vote for thousands of people under 18 throughout November, the results of which will directly inform the Commissioner’s work plan for the next four years.
“Join the Dance will provide an opportunity for people of all ages to show their support for this initiative, to celebrate every child’s right to wellbeing and to having fun.
“It will take place the day before the BBC’s annual ‘Children in Need’ event and participants are encouraged to consider taking part. They will not only have fun and show support for children’s rights to a safe and happy life, but will also raise some money on behalf of Scottish Children in Need.
“The children and young people involved will be able to post their vote for A Right Blether outside the parliament building and help blow out the candles of the UNCRC’s birthday cake which turns 21 years-old on November 20.
“Join the Dance will encourage the Scottish public, from businesses to schools, voluntary organisations to sports teams and politicians to police to get involved and put forward a team to take part.
“Many groups, schools and organisations have been approached and asked to enter a team of representatives to Join the Dance. The dance has been specially created for the day by international choreographer, Chris Stuart-Wilson.”
