Media release: KAL wins outstanding business growth award at ScotSoft conference

KAL, the Edinburgh-based ATM software specialist, has beaten a field of 14 of Scotland’s best technology companies to win the Outstanding Business Growth Award at the annual ScotlandIS ScotSoft Awards Dinner.

KAL’s CEO, Dr Aravinda Korala, received the Award from Alastair Balfour, chairman of sponsors 2in10 Ltd, during a ceremony at Edinburgh’s Sheraton Hotel attended by over 400 technology industry specialists.

Balfour highlighted KAL’s remarkable track record which in the past year saw sales of its software systems to banks in countries as far apart as China, Chile, Thailand, Japan and the US – where it beat global competition to win the contract to supply the giant, Citibank, with the software system to run thousands of its ATM machines in 28 countries.

“We all know in Scotland that we need more successful exporting companies,” added Balfour. “But in KAL, and more than a dozen other great companies that entered our awards competition, we surely have brilliant exemplars to demonstrate that we are perfectly capable of building world-beating technology businesses.”

The award was judged by a panel chaired by ScotlandIS deputy chair Aydin Kurt-Elli, chair of Lumison, and including John Innes, CEO of Amor Group; Jim Ferguson, COO of Axeon Power; Eddie Sinnott, director of Multi-Market Products, Wolfson Microelectronics; Mike Hambly, head of High-Growth Companies, Scottish Enterprise, Janette Harkess, Policy & Research director of the Scottish Council for Development and Industry, Polly Purvis, executive director of ScotlandIS, and Alastair Balfour, Chair, 2in10 Ltd.
