THE award-winning Metropolitan cocktail bar, style bar, piano lounge and Scottish a la carte restaurant in Merchant Square in the heart of Glasgow’s historic Merchant City, has splashed out £200,000 on a luxurious makeover designed to consolidate its position at the forefront of contemporary bar design.
With the aim of extending its reputation as one Scotland’s leading style bar and cocktail lounges, not only does the lavish facelift freshen Metropolitan’s interior and exterior, but it more clearly differentiates the appeal its various constituent elements – including its style bar; high-ceilinged piano lounge and cocktail bar; courtyard and a la carte restaurant spread over balconies overlooking Merchant Square, intimate booths and private dining areas.
Manager, Darren Scott, said: “Metropolitan enjoys a well-established reputation as a leading style bar but this extensive redesign is the result of a fresh impetus from a new and highly motivated management team eager to raise our standards ever higher.
“What I’m most pleased about Metropolitan’s new look is that it has been given a luxurious feel. Whilst the redesign has managed to retain its cool and contemporary industrial feel, it has also lent the space a luxurious comfortable feeling that creates a welcoming environment for a range of clientele – from individuals and couples to larger groups of friends catching up over a few drinks – which has blended everything together.”
At the centre of the redesign is the installation of a state-of-the-art lighting rig featuring a signature ‘M’ on the ceiling as well key design improvements to enhance efficiencies within the bar area.
Metropolitan’s makeover extends to its food offering, with the introduction of a new bar menu, a la carte menu and cocktail list.
Located on Candleriggs at the heart of the Merchant City, Glasgow’s cultural, fashion and food quarter, Merchant Square offers an eclectic selection of restaurants and cafes.
Once part of the old Glasgow Fruit Market, Merchant Square is imbued with the history of the area’s dominating Victorian architecture, although today this sense of history blends seamlessly with the distinctly cosmopolitan ambiance that pervades the surrounding cobbled streets that bring the outside in.
