COOKIE, the award-winning eatery in Glasgow’s southside, has taken its stated aim to break down the barriers between food production, distribution, preparation and consumption a step further with the launch of a specialist food-centred holiday offering olive picking in Umbria, Italy.
Recently named Glasgow Newcomer of the Year 2010 for breaking the mould of local eating and drinking, Cookie sources many of its products, including its olive oil and wine from Umbria, where co-founder, Domenico Del Priore, has strong family links.
Mr Del Priore said: “November is the best month to pick olives – the earlier in November the better. We get our olive oil from two sources; as producers in our own right and from our friend Claudio’s farm, Piana delle Selve, an Agriturismo working farm where you can stay and eat.
“This, year we have organised with Claudio to host an olive picking event at the farm for anyone interested.”
In addition to olive picking, Cookie will arrange a visit to the olive press where the whole of the agricultural community gathers at this time of year.
Cookery lessons will be organised and a visit to Cookie’s wine supplier, Alessandro at Sandonna, will also be available.
“If you’d like a break in the lush Umbrian countryside with nothing more to worry about than the sound of chickens and ducks, drinking a glass of good red wine at the end of the day while eating the best country fare, this break should be perfect for you,” said Del Priore.
“It offers a chance to visit a part of Italy most tourists miss.”
Full and half board is available for less than £100 a day, all inclusive. Interested parties should email info@cookiescotland.com.Cookie is based at 72 Nithsdale Road, Pollokshields, Glasgow. For further information about Cookie log on to www.cookiescotland.com.
