GRM Marketing, one of the UK’s principal marketing and communications agencies in the sailing and yacht racing sector, has returned from sponsoring the Yacht Racing Forum (YRF) in Malta this week – attended by over 250 delegates from 23 nations.
The YRF is a leading annual conference for the business of sailing and yacht racing, internationally, and was last held in person in 2019, pre-pandemic. The 2022 event held several exhibitors, of which GRM was one, as well as several panels, discussions and networking events for the industry’s leaders to come together.
The 2022 forum was attended by representatives of The Ocean Race, Golden Globe Race, Foiling Week, SailGP, Clipper Ventures, The Magenta Project, North Sails, GAC Pindar, and IMOCA, and was co-hosted by Yachting Malta and World Sailing.
Yachting Malta’s CEO, Michael Mifsud, said: “I am sure that Yachting Malta and GRM will have many opportunities to cooperate on Sailing events and initiatives. It was great making contact with this organisation at the Yacht Racing Forum.
“We share the same vision of inclusion, forward looking with full respect for the environment and nature.”
Delegates listened to several panels covering a range of industry-related subjects, including ‘increasing participation in a declining market and encouraging the younger generation to join’, in which GRM’s MD, Gordon Ritchie, was a panellist.
Gordon was joined on the panel by Alastair Fox from World Sailing, Jonquil Hackenberg from the Magenta Project, Clare Harrington from the New York Yacht Club, and Charlotte Kirk Elkjær from the City of Aarhus.
“The event triggered important conversations and reflection on where the future of this industry is headed. Our team is experienced, connected and excited to work to be part of the solution,” said Ritchie.
GRM exhibited a stand at the event, where Tunnock’s, the Novara One Planet Project and Snap Innovations were among the partners featured in addition to a business card draw.
The New York Yacht Club’s Rear Commodore, Clare Harrington, was the recipient of the draw, taking home a 23-year-old Glenfiddich Grand Cru whisky on the second day of the event. Rear Commodore Clare Harrington received the Glenfiddich Whisky from GRM and Our Isles’ Offshore Trainee, Laura Hampton, who is sponsored by the Royal Dee Yacht Club – the UK’s second oldest yacht club.
GRM previously sponsored the 2019 Yacht Racing Forum and has worked on several high-profile projects in the sailing, yacht racing and marine industries – from Conrad Colman’s epic 2015 Vendée Globe performance to managing the offshore training programme for Britain’s entry in the Clipper Round the World 2023-24 Yacht Race.
