THE Celtic Media Festival, the prestigious media festival in the ‘Celtic nations’, has announced the opening winners of its Torc Awards for Excellence 2021.
Hard-hitting investigations, heart-warming music stories and a celebration of the Scots language were among the day one winners at the three-day Celtic Media Festival.
Taking place online for the first time in its history, tonight’s awards were presented by Scottish actor, writer and comedian, Sanjeev Kohli, alongside festival director, Catriona Logan, and festival manager, Naomi Wright.
In a new category for 2021, Live Music Programme, BBC Alba’s Peat & Diesel: From the Barrow to the Barrowlands triumphed with the documentation of one of the band’s biggest gigs having sold out the iconic Glasgow Barrowlands just one year after their first-ever gig in a well-known Lewis pub.
Scots Radio got their first win in the Radio Magazine Show category. Their chosen entry is entitled ‘Magical Moments’ – full of good humour and a special magical atmosphere and banter. In Radio Comedy, BBC Radio Ulster’s A Perforated Ulster has won for the third year in a row. The satirical show tackles Northern Irish and international news with jokes, songs, sketches, and local comedy characters.
BBC One Wales’ The Clydach Murders: Beyond Reasonable Doubt claims the award in Current Affairs with their hard-hitting investigation into South Wales Police’s largest-ever murder hunt following the brutal mass murder of three generations of one family.
Catriona Logan, director of Celtic Media Festival, said: “In what’s been a tough couple of years, we’re so happy to be able to bring a packed programme of events.
“Now, more than ever, the connections we have and business we do together is incredibly important. While we may not all be in one place this year, we’re sowing the seeds for collaboration throughout the next year and beyond.”
